Personal Drones are Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) also called Remotely Piloted Aircrafts (RPAs). At present RPAs are mostly used for aerial photography but also finding new applications everyday. Australia is the world’s first country where regulations for these machines were made. Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) of Australia is the Authority where we should look for guidance. One of the documents we should read is CASR Part 101. This can be downloaded from CASA website https://www.casa.gov.au/.
Internationally, the main issue with RPAs is lack of regulations. Many companies have started making personal drones although there are no set manufacturing standards at present. Some of the other application are delivery of goods such as pizzas etc. Amazon also proposed a drone delivery service called “Prime Air”. Also traffic management, inspection of buildings and transmission lines, locating the survivors of disasters, delivery of defibrillator to patients in emergency and track and protect endangered species are some other applications on which different multinational companies are working. We hope that we will see some new amazing personal drones in near future.
